Belgium, the Land of Chocolate, was also the land of beer, but sadly, I didn't drink when I went there. I very much enjoyed the chocolate, though, and brought back many pounds which I lugged from country to country after Belgium (well, through England and Scotland)
What I loved about Belgium was the pristine architecture--or rather, the old architecture that survived, the predominant cobblestone streets, the cool old churches with old old surviving artwork from the Middle Ages. Some of inhabitants told me that Belgians were good with languages because they'd been conquered so many times. Back in '89 I'd visited the French part, Brussels, but this trip I focused on the Flemish part, Ghent, Bruges, etc.
